What worked vs. what didn't

Slicker brush: Luna hated it. Cheap wire bristles scratched her skin. Returned it. Rubber grooming mitt: Actually liked this — feels like petting. But only grabs surface hair, misses the undercoat where the real problem is. Undercoat rake: Game changer. First use I pulled out enough fur for a small hamster. But limit to 2x/week — I overdid it and irritated her skin. Fine-toothed metal comb: The surprise winner. $6. Use it daily for 5-6 minutes. Gentle, doesn't pull, Luna tolerates it longest.

The 5-minute daily routine

Morning: rubber mitt for 2 minutes while she eats. Evening: fine-toothed comb for 5-6 minutes on the couch. 2x/week: swap comb for undercoat rake. Total: under 10 minutes a day, 60% less fur on my clothes.

Things that were a waste

Deshedding shampoo — expensive, Luna hated the bath, zero difference. Shed-control supplements — no effect. What DID help: salmon oil every other day. Omega-3s = healthier skin = less brittle fur. Also switched to higher-protein wet food — dehydrated cats shed more.

And do NOT shave your cat. Their coat protects from sunburn, bugs, scratches. Shaving removes that protection. The brush is the answer, not the clippers.
